U.S. Office Workers Rush to Online News Sites

With much of the nation tracking developments in Israel and Afghanistan (news – web sites), traffic to major online news dailies surged last week, according to Internet audience measurement service Nielsen//NetRatings.

Many bloggers are reporting increased traffic to their sites as well. Due to the mind-numbing amount of hours I’ve been putting in at work, I have posted very little lately. Usually, the amount of traffic I receive rises and falls along with my posting activity. If I’m quiet, traffic is light. If I’m ranting and raving and making a general fool of myself several times a day, traffic goes up. Over the past week, however, traffic has been pretty high despite a dearth of posts. Hmm, what does it all mean? Do I get to shout, “Death to old media” yet? Seemingly, when the news hits the fan, more and more people turn to the internet and the ever growing population of weblogs for information and opinions. They are probably supplementing their old media news sources rather than replacing them, but its nice to know that the net and weblogs are becoming a popular option. And now onward to Total World Domination. Old media will succumb as online news proves that it sucks a lot less.
