WordPress 2.3 Release Timeline

WordPress 2.3 went into feature freeze last night in preparation for its eventual release on September 24th. From now on we’re concentrating exclusively on testing and bug fixing. We are scheduled to release the first public beta of 2.3 this coming Monday, August 27th. We’ll be doing a new beta release every Monday and bug hunts every Wednesday. On September 17th we enter a hard freeze and release the first release candidate. A calendar of these events is available here.

I’ll be announcing the beta releases and bug hunts as they come up. If you have some time to spare, try out the betas and help get 2.3 ready for release.

  1. A member (whooami) on the support forums made the whole process of upgrading into a relatively simple process for 2.2.2.
All he / she did was to package the WordPress files that had changed from 2.2.1, so that it acted like an incremental upgrade.
It took about 3 minutes to do.
    Brilliant!

    Here’s the thread:-

IMO this method ought to be the standard way of upgrading. It would make life a heck of a lot easier for people and webmasters wwho have to administrate multiple WordPress installations.

  2. Best of luck! This is a fun/exciting stage for most software projects, in between the stress.

I’m considering (meaning writing a theme for) moving my site to WordPress, so I’ll get to experience an upgrade before I commit, which is good for me.

  3. September 24th, eh? Any chance of a changelog now or do I have to wait until the first public beta on Monday (which stinks, by the way, now I have to wait until next weekend to play with it)?

  4. Where am I able to download WordPress 2.3 to help out with the betatesting and bug reporting?
