WordPress 2.3 Beta 3

WordPress 2.3 Beta 3 went out last night. We had quite a bit of activity since beta 2, with lots of bugs getting fixed. Beta 3 should be that much more solid and polished. Thanks to those who tried the betas and joined the bug hunts.

We’re on track for our first Release Candidate next Monday. Until then we’ll be triaging bugs and eliminating those that are deemed release blockers. The last bug hunt before releasing the RC will be on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 17:00:00 UTC time.

  1. Thanks, Ryan. 🙂

Is 2.2.x going to get any security support for a short period post 2.3 release, given the changes to the database schema that might slow 2.2.x -> 2.3.x adoption? I sure would hate for someone holding off on a 2.3-ready plugin to get bit because of a 2.2.3 security bug and be turned off of WP as a result.

  2. Geof: as far as I know, just like 2.1, support for 2.2 will be immediately dropped.

Only plugins that directly query the no-longer-existing tables will break. Those that correctly use the API will be fine.

  3. I loaded 2.3 beta 2 and 3 on my development box to see what I could see. Nice. However, I was STUNNED to not see any kind of tag management system. I’m not being critical of all the hard work that has gone into this, but this is almost like having a nifty new boat without a paddle or outboard motor.

    Great work anyhow. WordPress rocks.

  4. The admin/log in button has gone missing on one of the three blogs I upgraded to 2.3 (see above). The other two have the button.

    Please, can you suggest why?

I used the automatic upgrade on Dream Host for all three and am reluctant to upgrade my main blog.

    Love what you’re doing!

    Best regards
