  • The ability to relocate your content directory
  • The ability to move wp-config.php out of your web root
  • Drag-and-drop sortable galleries
  • Customizable default avatars

  1. @Mike,

I agree, looks like 2.6 will be an even better and improved 2.5!

I’m excited about post revisioning and the admin SSL support, that will be nice to have finally.

  2. Holy Cow! 2.6 might not be as big a release, but it seems to have all the missing bits that would have made 2.5 perfect (as opposed to simply awesome).

the media/gallery management improvements alone will completely rejuvenate and facilitate Mr Avg Joe (my customers) to take control. I mean without various buggy 3rd party plug-ins and extra software update overhead.

    I’m jiggling with anticipaction

  3. Sounds nice! I’ve just upgraded to WP 2.5.1 not long ago and this beta version is already out. I’m looking forward to the official release instead; as I am quite worried of any breakage in the plugins and stuffs. Hence, I’ll wait for a while.

  4. I’m not to sure where to post bugs i’ve come across so I’ll just post this here:

Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘version_warning’ was given in /home/content/f/a/m/famousbeats/html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 311

If there is a better place to post this please let me know.

  5. You know what would be great? Tagging old post with out scewing up the categories 🙂

For example: I want to be able to tag all posts that have the x word in them with a specific tag.

  6. These are some nice features that were needed by usual people. Now they are going to be public, seems as if wordpress is going to present some surprise in near future..:)

  7. Boy, things must be really moving along nicely if you guys are going to get 2.6 out at about a month ahead of time. Will have to see what happens but the feature set right now looks pretty darn cool.

  8. bari bir kaç ay geçseydi ya 😀 bu kadar hızlı version değiştirmek adamın başını döndürüyor.

İt’s very nice news thanks for all…

  9. Since I have yet to be able to fix my broken “insert into post” media organizer and the broken “paste from word” dialogue — and have not been able to find any WP document that officially addresses how to fix these issues — I’m hoping 2.6 sorts it out for me.

  10. I tok a chance and updated my current blog, to WP 2.6 b1.. and it’s working perfectly 🙂 Just some small problems with NextGEN Gallery, but I can live with that.

    Thank you.

  11. Good to hear. It seems like only last week that I migrated from another domain, upgraded from 2.3.x to 2.5.x, updated some core plug-ins, and had NO problems.

I will start beta testing 2.6 now so I will hopefully have a smooth transition when it is released!

    Alan

  12. It’s great to see that the development schedule is moving along quickly, and I love the post revisions feature – it’s great for my bigger blog where i have multiple editors, congrats to whoever had that idea 🙂
Still amazed that you’ve managed to get 2.6 scheduled for a whole month before it was actaully planned

  13. Leo Laporte recently mentioned on a TWiT podcast that when one tests betas and release candidates, the final products don’t seem as shockingly awesome.

For that reason, I’ll stick with the stable version of WordPress for now, even though I’ve been beta testing PHP software for years.

Keep up the good development, and I hope to see WordPress 2.6 soon!

  15. I don´t know how this WordPress community thing works, or what the deal is with WP, but i dicovered WordPress about 10 months ago, and loved it. I use it on five domains i own. But 2.5 was a disaster. For three months i´ve been looking for help with the image uploader, and it looks like i´m not the only one.
And something happened with the possibilities to control the widgets…
And the strange thing is – i haven’t heard or seen a written word from anyone working with WordPress. Nothing!? Not a comment? As if there was no problem.
In the dasboard i can read news about WP but everythings is good, great, fantastic, even better…
I live close to the Soviet Union and the WordPress community reminds a little bit about the regimen there, in the way of denying facts.
Whats wrong with 2.5.1? And what can we do?
It would have been so easy to give an explanation.
I don´t know if you are one of them, but I´ve had enough.
Tonight i´m gonna check Drupal… heard a lot about it lately…

  16. I really like these changes. The theme preview and the bulk plugin stuff is especially great.

Is there any chance at all that 2.6 might address the usability problems 2.5 introduced to the Write screens? Moving the tags and categories below the editing field was a horrible change for a lot of us.

  17. All of this sounds great, but why aren’t we seeing a better post editor, specifically something that’s a bit more XHTML-friendly? That’s probably one of the biggest nuances from an author’s standpoint in WordPress.

  19. Sounds great I’m almost done updating to 2.51. Very interested in “Drag-and-drop sortable galleries”. Haven’t tried yet but will there be a way to add and subtract from galleries? Or even list different galleries?

  20. Hierarchy-aware paging in the Manage Pages and Manage Categories admin pages.

WOW, someone heard me! 🙂 🙂 🙂 It was about time, if the pages+ plugin wasn’t working with 2.5.1, I would’ve been crying as the list of pages I have on the site I linked blocks my whole computer and I can’t open anything else if I’m loading it.

People with HUGE websites are thankful for this, honestly.

  22. In comment 22 I stated a bug that I came across, I just wanted to let you know that when I deactivated Register Plus it went away. I have already let the plugin maker know about this.

  23. I’ve just installed 2.5.1 but the new version sounds great – especially the theme previewing. I’d probably wait a wee while until they come up with cooler stuff before upgrading.

  24. My site can not be viewed in IE since the installation of 2.6. It seems to be working fine with FireFox and Safari for windows.

  25. hi,
Was there a solution to the problem Jeremy was having: Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘version_warning’ was given in /home/content/f/a/m/famousbeats/html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 311?
I am having the same exact thing happening. I tried beta 2 to see if it was fixed but no such luck. Is it a plugin that has the wrong version or something?
Thanks for any and all help with this problem,
    Peter

  26. Just installed 2.6 – one bug that bothered me still exists – when editing a post, categories I never selected mysteriously get pre-filled for me – seemingly at random, sometimes just one added category I didn’t mean to fill and sometimes 3-4 categories. Thx.
