Prickly Pear will ruin your day if you fall into one. The long spines hurt, but the small, hair-like glochidia will embed in your skin and form a bristling carpet of aggravation. You need tweezers and a lot of patience or some hot wax or glue to remove them. At least the flowers are pretty. These are plentiful in Texas Hill Country. Our pasture is full of them.
