Tech workers have been warning about the fascist tendencies of tech VCs and CEOs for awhile now. Meanwhile, media focuses exclusively on VC perspective.
Key question: why does media talk about tech’s support for political candidates, and focus entirely on investors like VCs, instead of those who actually make the tech? Do they do this in other industries? When a labor union endorses, do they ignore this & talk about the bankers from that industry?

A Story of Oligarchy
The story of Biden being pushed out is, in part, a story of oligarchy, very much including tech oligarchy.
Here’s the thing. If a bunch of rich people manage to bully the party into kicking out the elected candidate and replace him with literally anyone and we go into the election with a person chosen by a bunch of rich people that nobody had a chance to vote for our democracy is already dead.
To avoid oligarchy getting its wishes, among other reasons, I’m among those who will rally around Kamala Harris and reject the other proposed schemes for replacing Biden on the 2024 ticket.
Anil Dash has been a reliable commentator on tech VCs and oligarchy.
“it’s impossible to overstate the degree to which many big tech CEOs and venture capitalists are being radicalized by living within their own cultural and social bubble.”
“VC qanon” and the radicalization of the tech tycoons – Anil Dash
But, since the first step to fixing any problem is being able to clearly identify it, I’m gratified to hear more people recognizing the social and cultural factors that are shaping the otherwise-inexplicable choices of some of the most powerful people in the business world. Now here’s hoping that those outside the bubble can gather together and organize an effective counter-response to the increasing dangers and harms posed by the radicalization of the loudest voices in tech.

Rally around bodily autonomy and interdependence.
I think Dash’s distillation of today’s election news of Biden stepping down is spot on and our best hope:
She [Kamala Harris] wins for two reasons. Abortion, and this.
You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?
Kamala Harris
You exist in the context
of all in which you live and what came before you.
Everything is in context.
In her mother’s words, she said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people, you think you just fell out of a coconut tree? You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”
I’m making the political calculus to rally around bodily autonomy and the celebration of interdependence.
Bodily autonomy unites movements.
When we prioritize rights over one’s body, we have to defend universal access to healthy food, safe housing, and clean air and water. We fight against sexual assault and torture, and defend the rights of prisoners (including disabled prisoners, an issue of special concern to me).

It is time to celebrate our interdependence.
Interdependence acknowledges that our survival is bound up together, that we are interconnected and what you do impacts others. If this pandemic has done nothing else, it has illuminated how horrible our society is at valuing and practicing interdependence. Interdependence is the only way out of most of the most pressing issues we face today. If we do not understand that we are interdependent with the planet we as a species will not survive.

The notion of disability in our society is underscored by a bizarre conception of “independence”.

Maintain hope.
No. We’re not fucked. There’s no giving up, because if we do THEN we’re fucked. Don’t just give the fuckers the win, now or ever. Fight for yourself, fight for the people you care about, fight for the people who will be even more fucked than you will be. Be pissed that you have to fight. But fight.
This is a very good time to tune out defeatists. There’s a chance to block 45 & his corrupt cronies now. Anti-fascists should feel good about that.
This is why I remain optimistic as mediocre, unremarkable tech dudes go on full attack against inclusion…the folx who understand that they can get NOWHERE without inclusion are doing what needs to be done and most are doing that work outside of social media posts and blogs
OK so literally nothing has changed, Joe has benched himself, discussion is over, fantasy footballers can stfu, put in Kamala let’s end this fuckfest and dogwalk those project 2025 bitches
