Trickle-down economics is not a theory, it is theft.
For for five decades now, Republicans and too many Democrats have been preaching the false gospel of trickle down economics. The idea that the best way to grow the economy is to let the rich get richer and forget about the rest of us. This affordability crisis is not something that happened in the last 5 years. This affordability crisis has been 50 years in the making. Since the late 70s, corporate special interests and mega donors have rigged the system against us through their puppets that serve their donors instead of serving us. That is the problem that we face in this country and it’s why we can’t afford anything. We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption crisis. We are, we are getting screwed. Whether you’re a a little more conservative or a little more progressive, we’re all getting screwed. None of us can afford groceries. None of us can afford gas. None of us can afford healthcare. The billionaires buying the system, they don’t care who you are. They don’t care about your politics. They only care about their profits. They don’t see us as Democrats or Republicans. They don’t see red or blue. They only see green.
They see us as one group of people, one group of people they can rip off. They see us as one opposing team. So, we might as well start acting like one.

Was Sam Rayburn a communist?
Was Jack Nance Gardner a communist?
Was LBJ a communist?
Were these three great Texans communists?
They championed the New Deal and the Great Society, when the middle class in America was its largest and most prosperous. Was that communist?
Calling people communist has long been part of the traditional segregationist discourse and dog-whistle politics.
Stop letting it work on you.
They’re afraid of Texans coming together across party, across race, across gender, across religion to dream a little bigger.
They’re going to claim that this new dream is radical. They’re going to claim this new dream is extreme. They’re going to claim we are socialists or communists or whatever sounds scariest in a headline. And we’ll say back to them, “Is that the best you can do?”
These are the same old scare tactics. This is the same old politics of the past. The names they’ll call us only reveal how dreams that they once had for this country are no longer within reach for most of the people who live in this country. The people at the top want this to be a contest of names because they know that they’ll lose a contest of ideas.
